Wedding at Montage by Navarra Lilyfield

This Wedding at Montage by Navarra Lilyfield (previously Le Montage) was a stunning celebration of close friends and family, and a touch of luck.

The wedding ceremony was shot in The Glass House, and the reception in the Gallery Room at Montage. As Navarra Venues puts it, The Glass House “stuns guests with a space unlike any other”, while the Gallery Room is an “intimate and modern ballroom tucked away in Montage”.

The waterfront venue is known for its views overlooking Iron Cove Bay and is a hugely popular venue for weddings, functions, and formals. Even in the rain, the venue was beautiful. While the Bride’s parents unfortunately couldn’t be there to enjoy the picturesque views, they were able to join us virtually via Zoom from Japan for the ceremony and reception.

By a stroke of luck, the rain during the ceremony cleared up for the location photos, giving us an opportunity to take these great sunset snaps overlooking the Bay.

It was by another stroke of luck that we were able to go through with the wedding, and that I was able to  photograph it at all. Though this time, it was maybe a little bit of the wrong kind of luck.

This wedding at Montage was my second last wedding before I got the unfortunate news that I was a close contact for COVID (from a wedding I photographed the very next day!). Thankfully, all went well – all negative tests.

But with rapidly escalating cases, Sydney’s lockdown was ironically announced immediately after my 14 day isolation period, cutting short any freedom I could have felt after 14 days in isolation. And so, this wedding weekend marked the last of the weddings shot in the last couple of months; I haven’t been able to work ever since.

It’s been a tough 18 months for the world, with so many families being affected by COVID – whether through illness, local restrictions, or travel restrictions. But as this wedding proved, weddings can still be a family affair. Whether it’s through a Zoom ceremony or an intimate gathering as per restrictions, it will be a special day regardless.

However you’ve been affected by these lockdowns, I hope you and your family and friends are doing well. With the news that weddings will be able to proceed soon — though the logistics of which still really needs to be straightened out — I can’t wait to get back to photographing these special weddings.
