This time last year, we were all keen to get back to some semblance of normal, even if it was a new normal! That new normal turned out to be full of hustle and bustle. It was one of my busiest years so far – both with my business and in my personal life.
In terms of business, 2022 saw me shoot a whopping 71 weddings. As we came out of the COVID bubble where we got used to holding our breath through plans, cancellations, and postponements, 2022 was the year many couples could, finally, celebrate their big day with their families.
Speaking of families, 2022 was also the year of meeting and catching up with so many families for shoots. From COVID babies to families I photograph annually, from family shoots to birthdays to christenings, it was great to capture so many memories of people coming together and savouring moments that may have been a long time coming.
I also got behind the camera in other ways in 2022. I was offered a permanent role as a school photographer and spent many days honing my skills in hauling stands around Sydney, organising perfect class photos, and trying to get the attention of a LOT of easily distracted kids. Hands together! Feet together! Say cheese!
Heaps of other things happened in my personal and family life. My wife graduated from her masters degree; my daughter finished her double degree and is set to start a new job this year; my son just started an internship at a cloud computing company. Busy busy busy! And it wasn’t all work and no play – after not being on a plane in almost 2 years, we also had fun trips to Cairns in July and Perth in November.
As for this year, 2023 is looking pretty much fully booked in terms of weddings (plus already a dozen bookings for 2024 in the diary!). With a busy work year ahead and more travel on the cards, this year is already shaping up to be pretty exciting. It was a great 2022, here’s to an even better 2023.
